Poster Assignment #1
Pick one of the topic themes for your poster and begin working on this assignment.
DUE DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED
The Five Deadly D's of Driving: Distracted Driving, Drugged Driving, DWI and Driving, Drowsy Driving, Dangerous Driving.
1. Design your poster emphasizing one of the above themes.
2. Your poster should provide a message to the viewer about the topic you have selected.
3. Be creative but not too busy as we want the message to stand out and clearly be emphasized.
4. You may make the poster as big as you want but it must not be smaller than regular poster board paper size. 8 1/2 x 11.
5. The poster will be graded on getting your message across, visually appealing, effort, and on time delivery.
Assignment #2
Draw the instrument panel and vehicle controls in your own vehicle. There are slightly different ones in each kind of automobile. You need to also know how to read the gauges and understand the meaning of the warning lights. You should have a good understanding how to use these devices for your safety, communication, and comfort. Go over this before your first BTW lesson so that we can spend more time actually driving. Pre Start is most important and the more you practice the correct procedures the less time you will have to think about these procedures. They will become automatic.

Read Chapter 1 & 2 and complete the Study Guide Work pages - due on the first Monday of class.
Assignment # 4
Start gathering articles for your traffic safety scrapbook. 20 articles minimum - local and online can be collected.
Assignment # 5
You should have the 50 Hour Supervised Driving Worksheet included in your materials and already have logged 2 sessions before class starts. Time isn't important - just start the car and learn where everything is on your car.

Now that you have background information about highway signs, go to MapQuest to find a map of a city. In the City and State blanks, type either Binghamton, NY, or Syracuse, NY. Print a section of the map and use this map printout to answer the questions below. Highlight the roadways that circle and intersect with the city you selected.

- What are the numbers of the highways surrounding these two cities? Copy of map showing the location of these interstates.
- Do those numbers follow the rules that you learned about in the video Signs, Signals and Markings/AAA ?
- What are the numbers of the highways running east to west?
- Running north to south?
- Do these numbers follow the rules for interstates? How so?
- If a highway has a number that contradicts the rule, look at a larger road map of that state or of the United States. Now does the rule apply?
- Think about it: How can highway signs help you avoid getting lost?
- What is the fastest way to Syracuse airport from the Binghamton airport? Show the route, time frame, and actual turn by turn directions.
