VI. Assignments
- Define and recognize driving as a mental, physical and social task which involves the interaction of the operator, the environment and the vehicles.
- Recognize the dangerous drivers and driving situation and learn how to react safely.
- Understand the relationship between decision-making and reducing risks while driving. Plan ahead and anticipate the actions of other drivers. Think behind the wheel.
- Promote safe driving.
- Identify factors such as fatigue, alcohol, and other drugs that can impair a driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Develop cognitive driving skills by participating in specific driving situations, brainstorming solutions to realistic driving problems and challenges.
I. Attendance
- Students must meet minimum attendance requirements as specified by the New York State Education Department
- Course completion certificates (MV285) and insurance discounts are issued only n the certification of the school that the students have met for the required classroom instruction and behind the wheel instruction.
II. Textbooks
- Students will be loaned a textbook free of charge and loss of or misuse of this textbook will require payment in full.
- Students will read outside of class the complete textbook and materials given.
III. Blue Cards and Insurance Discounts
- Blue Cards (MV285) and insurance discount letters will be issued only to students achieving a grade of 65 or above in both classroom and btw.
- Students convicted of a moving violation while actually enrolled in the course may not be issued a MV285.
IV. Attitude-evaluation of course
- Use of recommended driving procedures
- Respect of the automobile
- Respect for rights of others in class and in the car
- Completion of all course assignments
V. New York State Lerner Permits
- NYS Requires all students to have a valid learner permit
VI. Assignments
- Read a minimum of three chapters a week in the textbook
- Complete and turn in all in class assignments
- Complete and turn in all behind the wheel assignments
- Pass three quizzes per week (65 or above)
- Complete one outside written assignment - details separate
- Final Exam (65 or above)
